Bangladesh's caretaker government says it has asked a controversial election official to go on leave, in a key concession to the country's opposition alliance.
A government spokesman says election commissioner S.M. Zakaria has been asked to leave during elections scheduled for January. The opposition Awami League has accused Zakaria of bias in favor of the outgoing government.
The interim Cabinet also has asked the election commission to correct a flawed voter list, meeting another key opposition demand.
