The Kolkata Book Fair, banished from its traditional venue on the Maidan by a Calcutta High Court order, today began at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake City.
The 32nd edition of the fair was inaugurated by acclaimed Australian author Thomas Kenneally in the presence of state Transport and Sport Minister Subhas Chakraborty, who was instrumental in organising the fair at the stadium after the High Court order.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Minister Chakraborty insisted the fair would be relocated to the Maidan next year after obtaining all clearances well in advance.
