Finance Advisor Announces New Budget in Bangladesh

The interim government of Fakhruddin Ahmed on Thursday detailed Tk 87,137-crore national budget for 2007-08, proposing certain fiscal measures apparently to heal the wounds of consumers reeling under price spiral and certain others that are feared to affect the private sector industrial growth.

The finance adviser to the interim government, AB Mirza Azizul Islam, read out the budget that proposed withdrawal of import tariff on some food items.

On the other hand, he proposed removal of the existing four per cent infrastructure development surcharge on imports of finished goods.
