Hello Washington: Children’s Infectious Diseases in Bangladesh


Topic of today’s Hello Washington was “Children’s infectious diseases in Bangladesh.” The panelists were Dr. Ayesha Rahman and Dr. Amal Mitra.

Dr. Ayesha Rahman is a specialist on infectious diseases especially in the pediatric and adult infections. She is currently Attending (consultant) at Kings Brook Jewish Hospital and Brookdale Hospital in New York.

Dr. Amal Mitra is a professor at the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Southern Mississippi University. Dr. Mitra was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Program Grant for 2007-08. He will be going to Bangladesh in August to research lead poisoning in children.

The guests answered questions from callers about dengue fever, travel vaccination, acute respiratory infections (ARI) and pneumococcal vaccine, children suffering from malnutrition getting E coli etcetera.
