AbuSayed Mahfuz is a candidate for Hamtramck City Council in Michigan in the Primary election.
Hamtramck is a small diverse municipality. At one time Catholic immigrants, mostly from Poland and Ukraine used to settle in Hamtramck but now it is also the home for Muslims from Bangladesh, Bosnia and Yemen.
A Bangladeshi-American, Mr. Mahfuz is a publisher of the local Bangla newspaper Bangla Amar and also a computer consultant. He has been involved in community services and mainstream US politics for many years. Mr. Mahfuz actively participates in interfaith dialogues to build bridges between race, color and faiths. He is a Commissioner for City of Hamtramck Human Relations Commission.
Mr. Mahfuz is also the Chairman of Michigan Democratic Party Bangladeshi Caucus. He is a Board member of Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion and NCCJ and also the Joint secretary of Bangladesh American Business Association of Michigan.
