A major five nation naval exercise has been completed  in  Bay of Bengal

The navies of the US, Australia, Japan and Singapore took part in this exercise along with the Indian navy. The major thrust of the exercise was to counter terrorism at sea and piracy.

The biggest naval exercise that India participated in for the first time will display 3 aircraft carriers, a nuclear powered submarine and 25 ships.

The exercise named as Malabar-2007 was on for 5 days and included ships from the US, India, Japanese, Australian and Singapore navies. Stretching from Vishakapatnam on the eastern seaboard to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the exercise was centered in the Bay of Bengal.

The stretch was considered the World's busiest waterway and guards the approaches to the strategic strait of Malacca. The leftists in India have objected to this naval exercise alleging that it reflects the domination of the US over India .
