Bangladesh Government should act neutrally: John Dennis

The United Kingdom has urged the interim government, the military and law enforcement agencies to act impartially with respect for public safety, human rights and media freedom while reform is under way during the emergency rule.

He made the comments at a briefing at the residence of the British high commissioner, Anwar Choudhury, before wrapping up his three-day visit.

Dennis, who held a series of meetings with the chief adviser, the chief election commissioner, the ACC chairman and the army chief during his visit, reiterated UK’s support for credible elections in Bangladesh.

The senior UK official added that while he recognizes that there are challenges, it is important that nothing is allowed to deflect Bangladesh from its commitment to restore democratic process and hold election according to the roadmap.

Dennis also appreciated the efforts and commitments of the government for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.
