Recently a seminar entitled Bangladesh: Democracy at Crossroads was held at Heritage Foundation, Washington DC.
The speakers included Congressman Joseph Crowley, John Gastright, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Ambassador Waliur Rahman, Director Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs, Major General Muniruzzaman, President Bangladesh Institute for Peace and Security Studies, Dr Ali Riaz, Associate Professor Department of Politics & Government, Illinois University.
The speakers while appreciating the role of the caretaker government in curbing corruptions raised questions on human rights issues in Bangladesh including their concern on how the two detained former Prime Ministers were treated in the prison.
