There are no War Criminals in Bangladesh, claims Mujahidi

Ali Ahsan Mujahidi, the Secretary General of the Jamaat-e-Islami, an Islamic fundamentalist party in Bangladesh has claimed that there are presently no war criminals in Bangladesh. According to Mujahidi , “ Late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had declared only 195 Pakistani soldiers as war criminals in the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Later, they were pardoned and repatriated to Pakistan through Bhutto-Indira Simla pact.” Mujahidi also refused to accept that his party had played an anti-Bangladesh role during the war of liberation.

The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami also refused to accept that parties on the basis of religion should not be allowed to do politics in Bangladesh.

He emphasized on the point that as 90 per cent of people of Bangladesh are Muslim, the religion of the majority of people there has to have a role. Mujahidi wants election to be held before December 2008 , rules for registration of the political parties to be relaxed and their party symbol to be retained.
