Cyclone Sidr Destroys Twenty One Billion Taka Worth of Crops in Bangladesh

Officials from the Agricultural Ministry in Bangladesh that the shortage of food during 2007-2008 would be more than three million metric tons.

They say that the government, in next few months, will be importing one million metric ton of food soon. The government will also give permissions to private firms to import an additional nine hundred thousand tons of food grains.

The officials say this will be in addition to more than a million metric tons of food imported already. Economists in Bangladesh feel that the country will not meet the target of reaching 7% growth as was initially predicted by Bangladesh Bank.
