The United States has called for an end to the state of emergency in Bangladesh and the holding of elections.
U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Donald Camp says the sooner emergency rule is lifted the better.
He says the United States is looking forward to Bangladesh holding elections by the end of this year.
Camp spoke to reporters at the end of a two-day visit in which he met with the head of Bangladesh's caretaker government, Fakhruddin Ahmed, and other top officials.
