A ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Voice of America’s Bangla language broadcast took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Tuesday.
US Charge d’Affaires Geeta Pasi stressed the critical role of the media in a democracy. She said “A free press is the lifeblood of democracy as it acts as the primary source of information to people.”
The 27th director of the Voice of America, Dan Austin, spoke at the event and said VOA “is committed to provide our audiences here and elsewhere with the latest news and information about United States, Bangladesh and indeed about the world.”
Chief of Bangla Service, Iqbal Bahar Choudhury also spoke at the celebrations.
