There are frequent power cuts in Dhaka now days. About 3,800 megawatts (MW) of power was generated in Bangladesh while the demand was for 4,300MW. There was a shortfall.
Problems in gas supply to power stations also contributed to the power outages. The power plants running on natural gas have a demand of around 800 million cubic feet of gas a day, but they are currently receiving around 642 million cubic feet of gas a day.
Gas companies under Petrobangla are currently able to supply around 1,700 million cubic feet of gas a day for the nation.
