Bangladesh EC Proposes Redefinition of the Limits of 133 Parliamentary Seats


The Election Commission has published a draft electoral constituency delimitation gazette, proposing redefinition of the limits of 133 parliamentary seats.

The rest 167 electoral seats, out of the total 300 constituencies countrywide, will remain unchanged. Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda made public the draft gazette at a news conference at the EC Secretariat.

The major changes will be in Dhaka district increasing the seats to 20 from the existing 13, while it will rise to 15 from the present eight seats in the city area only. Objections to the proposed changes to the electoral constituencies will be accepted till June 1, and the hearings on the objections will be completed by June 25 and the delimitation will be finalized by June 30.
