A Daily Star Journalist says Government in Bangladesh fails to Curb Food Price

Hasibur Rahman is a senior reporter in the Daily Star , a leading English daily newspaper in Bangladesh who is now stationed in Bogra, covering the northern part of Bangladesh. Rahman is essentially covering the food situation in Bangladesh,

In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, he says that despite a bumper production of paddy, the price of rice is still too high. Government in Bangladesh has failed to buy enough rice due to lack of storage so the middlemen are buying rice from the farmers and they are hoarding.

He said that the consumers are paying too much for their staple food. He, however, added that Bangladesh government is planning to build and repair ware houses so that food grains can be bought from the farmers direct and sell to the general public in a moderate price.
