Increase in honorarium for freedom
fighters, extending 20 per cent dearness allowance to community teachers and
raising tax-free income limit are among the few changes made to the new budget
coming into force from tomorrow.
The
council of advisers on Sunday approved the budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year
with some changes before sending it to president Iajuddin Ahmed on Monday for
his authentication.
The council in its meeting with chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair also approved the Appropriations (supplementary) Ordinance 2008, the Appropriations Ordinance 2008 and the Finance Ordinance 2008 — three legal instruments for ratification of the budget.
Finance minister Mirza Azizul Islam
proposed the Tk 99,962 crore annual budget, including a development outlay of
Tk 25,600 crore, on June 9 through a televised speech in absence of a
parliament. This is the second budget approved by the incumbent interim
administration, which pledged to leave office in the middle of the fiscal year.
