Talks to Restore Peace in Nandigram Fail

The all-party meeting called by the Bengal Chief minister on Saturday failed to reach a consensus on how to restore peace in strife-torn Nandigram.

The opposition demanded deployment of the Central government’s police force as they have no faith on state police. The proposal was rejected. The chief minister suggested suspension of all meetings and processions in the area in the next two months. The opposition did not agree. There was thus hardly any meeting ground between the two sides.

Gautam Gupta has the details.
