Officials in Bangladesh say one person is missing after a ship carrying
more than three-thousand tons of rice from India sank off the country's
southeastern coast.
Authorities say the Sri Lankan "Badulu Valley" ship sank after colliding with an empty cargo vessel in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.
Shipping officials at the Chittagong Port say authorities have rescued
16 crew members from the sea, and are searching for the one remaining
member. They say the crew comprised mostly nationals from Sri Lanka and
Burma.
Officials say efforts are underway to locate and salvage the ship and
its cargo. They say the Sri Lankan vessel had been heading to
Bangladesh from a port in India.
