Awami
League has asked the interim government to set all detainees, netted during the
anti-corruption drive, free before releasing BNP leader Tarique Rahman.
It also termed the
anti-corruption drive of the military-backed interim administration as eyewash
and alleged it was designed to downgrade Awami League to the level of BNP.
'The
government has lost its legal and moral rights to keep politicians behind bars
if the symbol of corruption is granted bail in all 13 cases,' Awami League
acting party general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters Saturday
after a meeting of the party presidium.
He also questioned the transparency and motive of the anti-corruption drive. He said the main objective of the post-January 11, 2007 government was to salvage the BNP-Jamaat alliance and equalise it with Awami League.
Acting party president Zillur Rahman presided over the meeting at his Gulshan residence. Presidium members Amir Hossain Amu, Suranjit Sengupta and Matia Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
