Shahriar Rahman Shajib (Shah), Fathema Shahab Ruma and Zahed Sharif  Speak About Healing Life


Healing Life is a full length feature film directed and produced by three talented young Bangladeshi Americans Shahriar Rahman Shajib (Shah), Fathema Shahab Ruma and Zahed Sharif.

In an interview with Voice of America, the trio spoke about the film and their experiences while making the movie.

Shahriar rahman Shajib is an IFP Project Involve alumnus. Shah graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in Film Production in 2001. He edited over a hundred commercials and five festival-winning short films. As a filmmaker-for-hire, Shah has worked in every capacity in the film production world, including sound recordist, Post Supervisor, Director of Photography, and gaffer. Shah was the editor in three shorts that have been recognized in filmmaking contests, including the MTV 72-hour film fest and LinkTV. In the summer of 2005, Shah assumed the post of Chief of Production at STV, a Bangladeshi channel based in New York. His commercial work can be seen on the networks NTV, TBC, ZeeTV, PTV, ARY, Sony Entertainment, B4U and others. At STV, two shows under his direction, "Bideshi" and "Bangla Invasion," have been critically acclaimed. Currently, Shah is Technical Director at Zoomdish Networks where he continues to produce cutting-edge television content.

Fathema Shahab Ruma graduated from Baruch College in Computer Information System, She started her career in media as a child artist in Bangladesh. Fathema hosted TV and live shows before she became a television actress. Right after graduating high school Fathema became Bangladesh’s first spokeswoman for a major channel, Channel I. At the age of 18 she became the first runner-up for Lux Anandodhara Miss Photogenic 2000 Contest. Since Fathema moved to the US, she has done significant amount of work for the Bangladeshi media in the US and Bangladesh. She has hosted and co-directed “Obhibashi” for Embrasure Films which was broadcasted on Bangladesh television. “Bangla Invasion” was one of her most popular show at STV. Her director credits include the highly regarded shows “Indomitable Women” and “I Want to Know.” Fathema has performed as a MC for numerous live concerts in the US. Even though Fathema has been working in front of the camera for past twelve years, she has always wanted to settle down behind the silver screen and this is her fist shot in this direction.

Zahed Sharif graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Chittagong University. He had worked as Art Director in one of the leading ad firms in Bangladesh: McCann Worldgroup. Some of his clients included Berger Paints, Coca Cola, Nestle, Standard Charter, and Reckitt Benckiser. Also a skilled DP and editor, Zahed had worked for such companies as BTV, NTV, STV, Cariv Vision, Sahara and Soundview Broadcasting.

Zahed has fifteen years of experience in media and advertising. He has produced innumerable commercials and has directed several documentaries. Currently he is attending Brooklyn College for his film studies.
