Security officials in Pakistan say military aircraft have bombed the
hideout of suspected militants in a northwestern tribal region, killing
at least 27 fighters.
The officials say two Taliban commanders and 12 potential suicide
bombers were among those killed Sunday in the Orakzai tribal region.
In Orakzai on Friday, a suicide bomber killed at least 40 anti-Taliban tribesmen who had gathered for a council meeting.
The Islamabad government is under pressure from neighboring Afghanistan
and the United States to tackle Taliban and al-Qaida militants taking
refugee in Pakistan's northwestern tribal regions. Authorities say the
militants use Pakistan to attack soldiers in Afghanistan.
Pakistani lawmakers are expected to introduce a comprehensive
anti-terror strategy in parliament on Monday. Legislators gathered in
the capital last week for a special intelligence briefing to help
develop a plan to combat militants.
