The Government of India has promised to deploy 10 dredgers to ensure better navigability in the river Hooghly to save the Haldia port in near Kolkata. The port has already lost lot of cargo as fewer ships with lesser cargo can now enter the port.
The government hopes that 10 dredgers will start
scooping out silt by end-December. However , whether the port will remain
navigable till then is a big worry.
