Jamaat & Police Clash in Bangladesh


Several people including the activists from a Muslim fundamentalist party in Bangladesh , Jamaat-e-Islami activists and police were injured, while they involved in clashes each other at the north gate of the national mosque-Baitul Mukarram on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists gathered at the north gate of the mosque and staged demonstration programs against the government, as the special court sent their leaders to jail in a graft case on Monday.

Leaders of Jamaat Dhaka city unit started demonstration meeting at about 4.30 pm, while some processions from different areas came to the gate and tried to join the meeting, but police on duty intercepted them. Police also requested them to leave the place.

At one stage, Jamaat activists started pelting police with brickbats, then police charged baton on demonstrators, said a police official.
