In an interview with VOA Bangla Service, Dr Karim says Bangladesh needs to develop a traffic model based on existing travel demands. This will be a mathematical model which will have the capability to forecast future year demands based on socio-economic data. He said the goal should be to develop a Master Transportation Plan for Bangladesh as well as for capital Dhaka city and for other major cities in Bangladesh. He favors establishing an environmentally sustainable rickshaw transport system in Bangladesh on special low-budgeted sector roads without interfering main street vehicular traffic in major cities in Bangladesh. This can be achieved by introducing the ‘color-coded rickshaw’ concept.
