In Bangladesh a body of Proctors of Rajshahi University, a public institution located in the northern part of Bangladesh today resigned en mass following an ultimatum given by Chattra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League.
Rajshahi University unit of Chattra League gave Proctor Professor Enamul Huq 24 hours ultimatum on Sunday to resign his post for what the student organization said his anti-student activities.
The proctor
and all assistant proctors of the Rajshahi University resigned their posts
Monday after the Bangladesh Chhatra League, associate student body of the
ruling Awami League, gave them 24 hours to oust the outsiders from the campus
or quit.
The acting
registrar of the university, Mohammed Shafi, told New Age that 10 members of
the proctorial body – proctor Enamul Haque and assistant proctors Ashiara
Khatun, Abdul Haque, Mahbubul Haque, Mohammed Ali, Ariful Hasan, Ariful Islam,
Azizur Rahman, Abdul Wahab and Ashraful Haque – submitted their resignations to
him at about 2:00pm.
In their
resignation letters, the proctors said that it had become impossible for them
in the present situation on the campus to continue their jobs, sources said.
