Yesterday's talks between the West Bengal government and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) yielded result with the latter calling off its fortnight-long hunger strike on Friday.
The GJM, demanding a separate
'Gorkhaland' comprising three hill sub-divisions and the Terai and Dooars areas
in the foothills, has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Gorubathan in
Dooars since January 29 demanding that it be allowed to hold meetings and take out processions in the area.
The state government prohibited any rally or procession in Dooars following a series of bloody clashes between the supporters of GJM and Adivasi Vikash Parishad, which was opposed to the Gorkhaland demand.
