Bangladesh Parliament’s Security Needs to Beefed Up

A top-level committee today decided to beef up the security of the Jatiya Sangsad as it observed the parliament with the present security arrangement might face terror attacks any time.

"We are going to revise the security measures in and around the parliament immediately in a bid to protect the parliament from any possible terror attacks," Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali told reporters after a meeting of the committee at the parliament.

The deputy speaker said everybody including the parliament members would have to go through an explosives detection system installed at the main entrance of the parliament.

The meeting also decided to raise the height of the barbed-wife fences around the complex to 12 feet and deploy armed guards at every entrance.

The parliament authority would make an arrangement for car parking.
