Sources in Bangladesh say Burma is
mobilizing troops along the countries' land border and sending ships to patrol
their disputed maritime boundary.
Bangladesh border patrol officers and government officials said Tuesday that
Burma has deployed hundreds of new troops along the border as it erects a
barbed-wire fence.
Colonel Abdul Khaleque told the French news agency that Burma is expected to
complete barriers along the 200-kilometer border by Wednesday.
Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Mohammad Towhid Hossain said Bangladesh has no
problem with Burma building fences on its territory.
But Hossain told Bangladesh media (bdnews24.com) that Burma's ambassador
did not mention the fence during their discussions last week. He said the two
sides did discuss the issue of Rohingya migrants from the Burmese border area.
