India has charged Pakistan with inflaming tensions between the two
countries by violating the cease-fire along the de-facto border in
Kashmir.
An Indian defense spokesman says Pakistani troops fired 1,500 to 2,000
rounds of ammunition at Indian posts in the Uri sector of Kashmir over
a five-hour period Friday night into Saturday morning.
The spokesman says the Pakistani actions were not provoked.
India also accused Pakistan of violating the cease-fire in July of last
year, when it returned fire. Indian officials said those clashes left
one of their soldiers dead.
India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmir.
Peace talks between the countries began in 2004, but there has been no
concrete results.
