Political Scientist and Anthropologist Dr. Naseem Hussain Speaks to VOA About Her Research in USA


Dr. Naseem Hussain is a political scientist and anthropologist.

She is the recipient of Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at the Post Doctoral level and is affiliated with Howard University now. She is conducting a research on the Bangladeshi Diaspora in the USA.

Dr. Hussein studied Political Science for Bachelors and Masters at Dhaka University and received M Phil in Political Anthropology from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. She studied at the University of New South Wales, Australia for MS in Anthropology and got her PhD in Anthropology from Macquarie University, Australia. At Post Doctoral level she was affiliated with Heidelberg University, Germany.

Currently she is affiliated with Howard University, Washington DC as a recipient of Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at the Post Doctoral level.As an Anthropologist she conducts research in the areas of Gender, Development, Environment, Culture and Politics. Her writings are published in books and journals. She shares her thoughts and writings with scholars and researchers through presentation in different seminars in and outside Bangladesh, mostly in South Asian countries.

At present as a Fulbright Scholar she is conducting research on the Bangladeshi Diaspora in the USA. Dr. Hussain focuses on the struggling lives of Bangladeshi immigrants maintaining their cultural identity and adjusting with the American mainstream at the same time.
