Pakistan's cricket team has defeated the Netherlands by 82 runs to advance to
the Super Eight round at the World Twenty20 tournament at Lords in
London.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat Tuesday, needing to win
by at least 24 runs to avoid elimination on run rate. Kamran Akmal scored 41 and
captain Younis Khan added 36 to help their team reach 175-for-five.
The
Dutch side needed to score at least 151 for the win, and got off to a good start
at 42-for-one. But leg-spinner Shahid Afridi took four wickets for 11 runs and
Saeed Ajmal took three more to bowl out the Dutch side for just
93.
Pakistan joins host England in the second phase, while the
Netherlands was eliminated from the tournament.
