Trains Collide Near Dhaka’s Kamlapur Station

A railway worker died and six people were injured after two trains collided near Kamalapur Railway Station on Monday afternoon. The killed worker is identified as Nahid, a guard. Seriously injured Nahid died at a hospital in Dhaka.

Shortly after the incident, the railway authorities formed a four-member committee to probe into the incident and suspended two officials.

Belayet Hossain, director general of Bangladesh Railway, said Mymensingh-bound Ishakhan Express collided with Mahanagar Probhati from Chittagong around 2:40pm.

The accident compelled the authorities to shut all rail tracks from Kamalapur station other than an approach line and an outgoing line.

Among the injured, two were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and four to Bangladesh Railway Hospital.

Belayet blamed the accident on signal failure. He also admitted to his department's failure.

The accident took place five days after a train rammed a number of vehicles near Moghbazar level crossing on Wednesday.
