Bangladesh High Court dismissed the contempt petition filed against former BNP communications minister Nazmul Huda and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman for criticizing last month’s High Court ruling on the proclamation of independence.
The High Court called Mr. Huda and
Mr. Kamaruzzaman 'wrong-headed' and 'worthless' for making 'derogatory'
remarks on the June 21 HC verdict regarding the proclamation of the country's
independence.
The Court definitively ruled that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first to declare Bangladeshi independence from Pakistan in 1971.
During hearing of the petition against Huda and Kamaruzzaman, the HC
bench of justices ABM Khairul Haque and M Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed observed
that they had made the comments without being informed about the High Court verdict.
Matiur Rahman Chowdhury has the details.
