Security Act for Sheikh Mujib's Family

A draft law was introduced by the Bangladeshi Cabinet, calling for the lifelong, round-the-clock protection of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s surviving family members – namely his daughters current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

The current Awami League (AL) government will be instating a law that was scrapped by the BNP government of 2001. Hasina and her family would be under the protection of the Special Security Force and other personnel and would be provided with safe accommodation and other privileges under the law.

Sheikh Hasina has been the target of numerous attacks, including a deadly grenade blast on August 21, 2004 at an AL rally which left 24 people dead.
