CPI-M Removes Kerala Minister from Politburo

In a two-day central committee meeting, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Politburo has recommended the removal of Kerala’s Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan from the decision-making body.

Mr. Achuthanandan has been accused of party indiscipline and leaking information to the media. He has been permitted to continue in the office of State Minister and finish out his term.

Achuthanandan and the party’s State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan have been engaged in an ongoing factional struggle within the party. Mr. Vijayan is not expected to receive any demotion or discipline.
