Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Visits Senator Edward Kennedy’s Grave


Dr Dipu Moni, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh visited the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Friday to pay homage to late Senator Edward Kennedy. She placed a floral bouquet at the late Senator’s grave and observed a minute of silence at the graveyard. Senator Kennedy had been a strong supporter of Bangladesh’s independence. He passed away last month after a prolonged fight with cancer. Bangladesh Ambassador to USA was present on the occasion.

Prior to this when the World Bank Vice President for South Asia region Ms. Isabel Guerrero called on Dr Dipu Moniin Washington, DC, the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister said that the Government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021. In this task, the government sought cooperation from all concerned including the World Bank. Issues pertaining to connectivity particularly the rail and railway, energy sector cooperation, cooperation in water sector, development of infrastructure, trade involving the South Asia countries and in that context investment by the World Bank etc. featured in the discussions. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh also highlighted the importance of capacity building especially in the area of data information. Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mr. Akramul Qader, Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohammed Ali Sorcar and officials of the World Bank were present at the meeting.

The Foreign Minister also exchanged views with the local Bangladeshi press in Washington, DC.
