Report on Economic Task Force in Bangladesh


In order to avoid any adverse impact of the global recession the government in Bangladesh established a Task Force in February under the leadership of Finance Minister AMA Muhith. This was a part of Awami League’s election pledge .After nearly seven months, a second meeting of the Task Force was held on September 7 which decided to build up a Working Group to meet the challenges of the recession.

One of the members of the Task Force Dr Mustafizur Rahman , who is the Executive Director of Center for Policy Dialogue , a non-governmental organization , said to VOA Bangla that in the meantime Task Force has been able to make some progress for some work. He said that this committee was entrusted to look into the matters of both the domestic economy and the foreign trade to make them more effective despite the recession.

He said in a recent meeting they also discussed about fifty billion taka which the government has earmarked for using to combat the recession.
