Bomb in Bangladesh Targets Lawmaker, 10 Injured

Police in Bangladesh say at least 10 people were injured Wednesday in a bomb attack targeting a ruling party member of parliament who is related to the prime minister.

Police say Fazle Noor Tapash escaped unhurt after unidentified attackers threw a bomb as he was getting into his car.

The attack occurred outside the lawmaker's office in (the Motijheel area of) the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

Tapash is a family relative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The lawmaker is the son of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni who was killed during the 1975 army rebellion that also killed Sheikh Hasina's father, the country's founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Tapash, who also is a lawyer, has been working on the state side of appeals proceedings involving the suspected killers.

The AFP news agency says Tapash has blamed the 1975 attackers for the apparent attempt on his life.
