Around 50 workers of BNP were injured in a clash between two rival groups of BNP during the council of Chittagong city unit of the party at Engineers Institution auditorium in the port city on Monday.
The council of Chittagong city
BNP has been postponed due to the clash between two factions of the party.
The leaders have failed to even hoist the national and party flags for the
event's ceremonial inauguration in the morning due to the tense situation.
According to many observers, the series of clashes sparked by party infighting
has foiled the council, that was in process after a gap of 16 long years.
The clash involved the supporters
of Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, convener of Chittagong city BNP, and that of
Abdullah Al Noman, party joint secretary general, as well as workers of former
BNP minister Mir Nasir Uddin.
Of the injured persons, the condition of Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Shamim and
Masum are said to be critical and they were admitted to Chittagong Medical College
Hospital. The rest injured took treatment at private clinics.
