Dr. Shapan Adnan is an Associate Professor at the Department of South Asian Studies in the National University of Singapore.
He has been teaching Political Economy of South Asia (recently renamed South Asia: Poverty, Inequality, Power), Socio-economic Development in South Asia, and (3) Gender and Society in South Asia. His research interests are in the fields of political economy, political sociology and development.
In an interview with Voice of America, Dr. Shapan Adnan analyzed President Obama’s first State of the Union speech.
Dr. Adnan said President Obama took office amid the worst economic crisis and at a time when the country is involved in two wars. Unemployment rate is still very high. He said President Obama is trying his best to solve all the problems.
Dr. Adnan expressed hope that the Health Reform Bill will be approved and Americans will have a better deal in health care system, as in UK and other European countries.
