BNP Rallies to Protest Airport Name Change

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the main opposition party of Bangladesh, is holding a countrywide rally to protest the renaming of the Zia International Airport. On Monday the cabinet decided that the name of the international airport in Dhaka will be changed to Hazrat Shahjalal Airport.

Six BNP activists have been arrested from a procession after the rally at Bijoynogor in Dhaka. The police say that the protestors had a clash with them as they damaged vehicles on the road. After 30 minutes of chase, the people who were rioting dispersed. But BNP says that their rally was of a peaceful nature yet the police attacked them when they were returning from the Muktangan rally. They believe that the Awami-League led government is trying to wipe out the name of Ziaur Rahman, whose widow is BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia.
