M K Narayanan concerned about turmoil within West Bengal


On the opening day of the budget session of the assembly, M K Narayanan, West Bengal Governor, expressed his concern over the state of unrest that West Bengal has been facing due to left wing extremists and separatist movement in the north along with clashes within political parties.

He said that the security environment in West Bengal has become more difficult in the last year. He also mentioned the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s demand for a separate Ghorkhaland. The state police have now joined CRPF and BSF in order to restore the authority of police stations. Over 450 people have been arrested, Narayanan informed the audience.

This was his first speech after becoming Governor of West Bengal.
