Bangladesh, China Sign Three Accords

Bangladesh and China have signed three agreements on technology, infrastructure and the economy.

Officials signed the agreements Thursday in Beijing, following talks between Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Chinese counterpart, Wen Jaibo. The accords include a framework agreement on construction of a fertilizer factory in Bangladesh as well as an agreement on a road and bridge project in the country. The two countries also agreed to expand economic and technical cooperation and work on strengthening ties in the energy sector.

Prime Minister Hasina is on a five-day visit to China, her first official trip to the country since taking office last year. She is scheduled to meet with President Hu Jintao Friday. The Bangladeshi leader will also travel to the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming to seek support from local officials for infrastructure projects.
