As Bangladesh celebrates the 39th anniversary of its independence on 26th of March, we spoke to Professor Syed Anwar Hussain of the Department of History, Dhaka University who explains the political perspective of the War of Liberation in Bangladesh.
He says that without this political background , it would not have been possible to go for war. Professor Hussain analyzes the major elements of history, namely personalities and events which interact in the making of history.
Professor Hussain says that politics is a part of history but partisanship is not. He regrets that history of the Liberation war of Bangladesh is often , and indeed, unnecessarily distorted along the political lines.
While he expresses profound respect for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, he also says that all leaders who inspired the liberation of Bangladesh should be honored.
