India’s home minister P Chidambaram visited the Maoist heartland of Lalgarh in West Midnapore on Sunday, the first by a central minister since the anti-Naxal operations started there in June, amid unprecedented security and a 24-hour strike call by Maoist-backed tribal people.
The home minister ruled out deploying the army to control the situation. However, he renewed his call to Maoists to leave arms and sit down for talks.
