Saber Hossain Chowdhury is one of the members of Parliament from Bangladesh who visited USA as a parliamentary delegation member.
In this interview, Saber Hosssain Chowdhury, who is also the Chairman, Committee on Climate and Environment of All Party Parliamentary Group (AAPG), talked about their discussions with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, US Congressman Joseph Crawley and US Climate Envoy Ambassador Todd Stern. He said that they have discussed a proposal on how fund saved from nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament can effectively be directed towards mitigating the sufferings of people affected by climate change.
Mr. Chowdhury also elaborated on elements of Bangladesh’s strategy to face challenges of climate change and showed how Bangladesh is way ahead in terms of mitigation and adaptation practices. He added that they discussed the possibility of getting the climate fund released from Bangladesh. He talked about the cooperation between the US Congress and Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and emphasized on the importance of parliament members getting involved in activities beyond the four walls of parliament in order for themselves to know the matter on which they question the government.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that in spite of partisan differences, there are times when all parties should take united approach for the sake of national interests.
