It has recently come to the attention of authorities that most of the official records of the 1971 war that led to the creation of an independent Bangladesh, have been destroyed by India that played an important role in the war against Pakistan.
The records of the creation of Mukti-Bahini are among these destroyed files. Files carrying sensitive operational information and all other records held at the Eastern Command of the Indian Army Headquarters in Kolkata were destroyed immediately after the 1971 war.
The fact that these files are missing have been discovered recently when the Eastern Command was looking through the records to find information on the Mukti Bahini camps. They were planning to organize a reception for Bangladeshi war veterans.
