Bangladeshi Opposition Leader Criticises the Government For Corruption and Terror - 2003-03-07

Sheikh Hasina , the Leader of the Opposition in Bangladesh has criticised the four party alliance government for the alleged failure in alomost all aspects of daily life. Speaking to a mammoth rally on the occasion of the historic seventh March , the day in 1971 when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh gave a clarion call to prepare for the war of Independence, Sheikh Hasina said that the alliance regime has no right to hang on to power if it fails to contain the price-hike and terrorism.

The Awami League chief observed that the entire country was plunged into a panicky situation because of repression, rape, murder, price-hike of essentials and utilities, politicisation and corruption. Referring to last Sunday's incident at Padma state guesthouse, which prompted the Myanmar foreign minister to leave it, Hasina said a government that cannot ensure the security of a foreign minister could not be expected to protect the common people.

Speaking about the bomb blasts, she said following the Mymensingh explosions, the government rounded up her party leaders and intellectuals under a "conspiracy" but kept quiet after the Dinajpur blast where the culprits were caught red-handed".

Amidst cheers and slogans, Hasina declared that her party would announce a movement against the government at an appropriate time to free the nation from what she termed the "misrule" of the alliance government .
