Saudi Officials Detain Suspected Riyadh Bombing Mastermind - 2003-06-26

Saudi officials say they have detained the suspected mastermind of the May 12th suicide bombings in Riyadh that killed 35 people.

Saudi officials say the suspect, Ali Abd al-Rahman al-Faqasi al-Ghambi surrendered to police. U-S officials say Mr. Ghambi, also known as Abu Bakr is a known al-Qaida operative.

The development comes as Saudi authorities continue to crack down on Islamic militants. Earlier today, Thursday, the Saudi daily Okaz reported security forces had arrested three men carrying maps of vital government installations.

Saudi authorities have arrested more than 40 people following the Riyadh blasts. Authorities blame Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist network for the almost simultaneous attacks on compounds housing westerners in the Saudi capital.
