Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims are gathered in Bangladesh for the start of the annual festival of Biswa Ijtema, or World Muslim Congregation. The three-day congregation is second in size only to the Haj in Saudi Arabia. The organizers say one and one-half million people have already arrived and that figure could double by the final prayers on Monday. The annual festival draws pilgrims from 43 countries including Bangladesh. Special prayers will be offered calling for the unity of Muslims and for peace and harmony among people of all faiths.
